Ole Kirk Kristiansen

The founder of Lego, Ole Kirk Kristiansen, was born on April 7, 1891. Ole Kirk Kristiansen first worked on a farm and later got an apprenticeship with a carpenter that he completed in 1911. He lived in Denmark and served in the military at the Citadel of Copenhagen. At the age of 24 Ole Kirk bough the Billund Joinery Factory they manufactured doors, windows, kitchen cabinets, cupboards, coffins, chests of drawers, tools for digging peat, and bodywork for carts. He was a christian man who went about his life thankful for the things god had granted him and tried to achieve excellence within everything. When a global crisis hit Ole Kirk business was hit to. Many Danish farmers lost money and business because of US and Uk restrictions on imports. This created a problem for Ole Kirk because farmers and smallholders were his number one customers. Because no one was buying Ole Kirk had no jobs to do and was forced to make toys for Jens W. Oleson, which started his famous toy making. Ole Kirk became part of the National Association for Danish Enterprise. They promoted his manufacturing efforts during the crisis and put him in a magazine to give advice and promote his goods. Then 2 years after Ole Kirk started making toys(1932) he showed off legos in a trade fair.Lego initial started as a company name that made wooden toys. The Association for Danish Enterprise supported Ole Kirk and gave him a free spot in the trade fair. The beginning of the Lego Group was marked by Ole Kirk's manufacture of toys such as cars, planes, and yo-yos. Ole Kirk needed money to secure his business's future, so he asked his family for a 3,000 DKK loan. When Ole Kirk decided to completely make the switch to toys he held a contest to find a new name for the company the prize being a bottle of homemade wine. The winner of the contest was Ole Kirk himself with the name â€Å"Lego.† He got the name by combining the danish words â€Å"Leg Godt† which meant â€Å"play well.† Within a few years Ole Kirk laid the foundation of one of the world's leading toy manufacturers. Ole Kirk always promised quality with his work and wanted children to play with his toys for many years. He always Produced his wooden toys to his standard and made his kids do the same. Ole Kirk went as far as to make the company's motto â€Å"Only the best is good enough,† which still applies to the company today. As Ole Kirk's company grew he stuck to his roots and never got lazy with his work. With company growth also came innovations of tools and machines for Ole Kirk to use. When Ole Kirk bought his first milling machine it was a huge investment, especially because it was worth one third of company profits. Although Ole Kirk saw the massive investment as worth it for the quality and quickness it would help achieve. The mill made it possible for him to hire 15 people but, their jobs were in jeopardy when a fire burned down the factory. Ole Kirk was given a loan to rebuild which made any thought of not rebuilding go away. By the end of that year production was sailing and he was able to hire 40 people. The next big thing that happened to the company was the age of plastic. Ole Kirk invested in a plastic injection molding machine. The first plastic product that The Lego Group makes is a a plastic fish baby rattle. Although Ole Kirk's family didn't like the idea of plastic and even tried to switch him back to wood, he persisted though and started making the Legos we know today. They first started out as â€Å"Automatic Binding Blocks† until in 1951 when the name was officially changed to Lego Bricks. The change was because Godtfred Kirk wanted the Lego name to be better recognized throughout the world. Eventually Lego was sculpted into every brick made. It turned out that Ole Kirk was right and the plastic toys lead to expansion across Norway, Sweden, Germany, and other parts of Europe. The company was booming with success and continued to grow and grow. The Lego Brick is continually innovated until January 28, 1958 when the almost perfect brick was designed and patented. The Lego Group and Godtfred Kirk wanted a more dynamic toy and added new pieces like the wheel. This creates more demand for the product and furthers the growth of the company. In 1964 the first building instructions appeared and now specific things could be built. After instructions the main focus was packaging. The packaging told what could be built and drew you in to buying the product. In 1962 Dagny Holm, Godtfred Kirk's cousin joins the company and revolutionized building forever. This brought many visitors to the factory and it became overcrowded. The solution was to build the first ever Legoland. This place displayed many intricate lego models for many people to come and see. Wanting to expand the companies range of products further lead to the development of the lego figure. High demand and increasing sells lead to more time and effort being put into the figures and eventually they became what is known as Lego Minifigures. They were genderless and had no specific ethnicity. This was so that all the deciding could be in the child's imagination and creativity. Since their release over four billion Lego Minifigures have been produced. The Lego vision became one of idea, exuberance, and values. Lego want people to use their own imagination to realize anything was possible and keep their values in mind. Lego never lost its passion for its toys or their quality. The business was able to grow because they never forgot where they came from and how they got where they were. By 2005 they wanted to be the leading toy brand for families with children, this was part of the strategic platform to let employees know where the company was headed. Lego became not only a brand but something that had meaning and value attached to it through not only children but the company too. As time continued more innovations came and soon Lego was in the digital game. A man by the name Dandi brought videos of 3-D Legos which prompted investigation of the possibilities of Legos in a computer based system. Eventually this created ideas such as Lego Mindstorms and Lego computer games. The first game, Lego Island, launched in 1977 was the first addition of Legos on a computer the public had seen. Also the following year the Intelligent Lego Brick was created to be built as a model and can be programmed. The Lego group went from a furniture manufacturer to a wooden toy manufacturer to a plastic brick called the Lego manufacturer. As the company innovates its products it never lost sight of its goals and values and was able to build off of a small wood company. Today Lego creates anything from Lego sets to movies and continues to deliver with quality. Many kids today love Legos and the rest of their products as they are still one of the top toys in the world. Lego is an inspiration for many businesses because of their story and how they became one of the biggest businesses worldwide. Legos success is marked by the fact that Ole Kirk's dreams for his company were achieved and exceeded even his plans for an amazing manufacturing business.

Intravenous urography will finish information all about kidney disease, ureter and chafe bladder. This process consists of two phase.First, it needs good functional of kidney to filtrate dye comes out from blood to urine.Time that needed for dye to be on X ray is related with kidney function.Second stage gives anatomical image of urination piece of land. Between foremost proceedingss, the dye will give clear image of kidney, stage that called as nephrogram. The other image will follow dye that passes down to the ureter and saddle sore bladder. The last movie is taken after urine comes out will demo how the saddle sore vesica is emptied well.Intravenous urography by and large undergoes for valuate the abnormalcy construction or obstructor of the micturition piece of land.INTRAVENOUS UROGRAPHY HELPS IN THE PROBLEMSKdney rocks in the kidney ( a rock in kidney or ureter will be shown clearly on the x-ray movie ) , Urine infection ( if patient has infection at the vesica or kidney, endovenous urography helps to happen if patients has obstructor or unnatural kidney ) , haematuria / hemorrhage in piss ( it is caused by infections, annoyance and tumour in kidney.with endovenous urography, it can assist to happen the cause ) , obstructor or amendss at any portion at urination piece of land can be seen by endovenous urography.Contrast MEDIAHigh- osmolality contrast media ( HOCM ) or low-osmolality contrast media ( LOCM ) are acceptable but the undermentioned ‘high hazard ‘ groups should have LOCM such as babies and little kids and the aged, those with nephritic and / or cardiac failure, ill hydrated patients, patients with diabetes, myelomatosis or sickle-cell anemia, patients who have had a old terrible contrast medium reaction with LOCM or those with a strong allergic history.ADULTS DOSE50 milliliter.PAEDIATRIC DOSE1 ml kgE†°? .PATIENT PREPARATIONNo nutrient for 5 hours prior to the examination. The patient should non be overhydrated but should be usually hydrated.Dehydration is non necessary and does non better image quality.Patients should be, sooner, be ambulatory for 2 hr prior to the scrutiny to cut down intestine gas.The everyday disposal of bowel readying fails to better diagnostic quality of the scrutiny and its usage makes the scrutiny and its usage makes the scrutiny more unpleasant for the pati ent, others claim there is no grounds this is advantageous. The patient should avoid the heavy repast prior to the scrutiny to cut down the sum of intestine gas, and the vesica should be empty. If the scrutiny is to be performed on a patient who has antecedently had a terrible contrast medium reaction, consideration should be given to administrating methyl Pediapred 32 milligram orally 12 and 2 hr prior to injection of contrast medium inaddition to guaranting that a LOCM is used Preliminary radiogram should be taken to show possible calcifications, concretions or other abnormalcies in the venters to happen the place of the kidneys, and to look into the technique factors.Preparation BEFORE INTRAVENOUS UROGRAPHY EXAMINATIONThe kidney should can be filter the contrast. For that, it is rare to make if the patient has unfunctional kidney. Before the process, the patient needs to undergoes blood trial to do certain the kidney is good function. The patient should inform the physician if there are any allergic reaction, prior to the contrast media likes iodine. The patient informed that do non devour any heavy repast certain hours before the procedure. This is to do certain, the patient ‘s colon is free from nutrients that can do the image became clear .The patient will be given laxatives ( dulcolax / heavy doses causes painful cramps ) before the procedure.the intent is to clean the intestine that can do the x-ray image more clear. The patient will besides be given the informed consent for patient understand about the procedure. If patient has diabetes and takes Glucophage, the patient should halt takes the pills for two yearss before the examination. This is caused by the combination of Glucophage and contrast media that maybe gives side effects to the kidney.AFTER THE PROCEDUREAfter the endovenous urography process, the physician will name the movies discourse how to do colony with the patient and family. As an illustration, the physician can non see both of the kidney x-ray image clearly after four hours, the patient should let them to see for the following process. There are many causes of the obstructors is kidney stones.the other causes are mass, tumour or malignant neoplastic disease at the tissue near the ureter.Sometimes, the hemorrhage in kidney can do blood coagulum that cause obstructor of micturition from gall vesica and ureter. See of this scrutiny, the physician will do two actions ; either waiting for yearss for the rocks pass out in urine or refer to the specializer of the Urology that maestro in micturition disease. If the endovenous urography shown the obstructor of big rock in the upper or in-between portion of ureter, the urologist possibly used lithotripter machine that send sound moving ridges to interrupt rocks to little atoms that can go through through the ureter easy and comes out from organic structure via piss.PRELIMINARY FILMSupine, full length AP of the venters, in inspiration. The lower boundary line of the cassette is at the degree of the symphysis pubic bone and x-ray beam is centred in the mid-line at the degree of the iliac crests.TechniqueThe average antecubital vena is the preferable injection site because flow is retarded in the cephalic vena as it pierces the clavipectoral fascia.A 19-G is advanced up the vena to cut down the hazard of a perivenous injection and the injection is give n quickly as a bolus to maximise the denseness of the nephrogram.Upper arm or shoulder hurting may be due to stasis of contrast medium in the vein. This is relieved by abduction of the arm. The patient is undress ( have oning infirmary gown ) and lying on the x-ray table. The contrast media is injected into venas or the arm.Ptient possibly feels pain. The contrast media is filtered via kidney and to ureter. The uninterrupted x-ray image is taken at the venters, normally every five proceedingss to ten proceedingss. Patient is lying on the x-ray tabular array when the x-ray image is taken but, the patient will teach to travel to the lavatory for micturution before the last x-ray image is taken.Although, a few x-ray image is taken for hours before the examinationin certain conditions.Patient can endorse place after the process is done.Patient can devour normal repast after the scrutiny.MoviesIMMEDIATE FILMAnteroposterior ( AP ) renal areas. This movies is exposed 10-14 seconds after the injection ( arm-to-kidney clip ) .Its purposes to demo the nephrogram, as an illustration the nephritic parenchyma opacified by contrast mediain the nephritic tubules.5-MINUTES FILMAP nephritic areas. This movie is taken to find if eliminations is symmetrical and is priceless for measuring the demand to modify technique, as an examplea farther injections of contrast media if there has been hapless initial opacification. A compaction set is now applied around the patient ‘s venters and the balloon positioned halfway between the anterior superior iliac spinal columns, as an illustration exactly over the ureters as they cross the pelvic brim. The purpose is to bring forth better pelvicalyceal distension.Compression is contraindicated after recent abdominal surgery, after nephritic injury, if there is a big abdominal mass and when the 5-minutes movie shows already distended calyces.15-MINUTES FILMAp of nephritic areas. There is normally equal distention of the pelvicalyceal systems with opaque piss by this time.Compression is releasd when satisfactory presentation of the pelvicalyceal systems has been achieved.RELEASE FILMSupine AP abdomen. This movie is taken to demo the whole urinary tract. If this movie is satisfactory, the patient is asked to empty their vesica.AFTER MICTURITION FILMBased on the clinical findings and the radiological findings on the earlier movies, this will be either a full-lengt h abdominal movie or a coned position of the vesica with the tubing angled 15 & A ; deg ; caudad and centred 5cm above the symphysis pubic bone. Risk Management and financial derivatives Essay

Risk Management and financial derivatives - Essay Example In this regard, pharmaceutical firms are relatively more volatile than most companies in other industries ("Risk Management in the Pharmaceuticals Industry" 2005). This paper discusses the major business risks that have significant impact on pharmaceutical companies, specifically AstraZeneca. Moreover, it explains how the company utilises derivative financial instruments such as interest rate swaps and forward foreign contracts to minimise its exposure to financial risks brought about by fluctuations in the interest rate and exchange rate. This paper also presents alternative strategies that the firm can adopt in order to hedge against these risks. Based on their annual reports, AstraZeneca and other multinational pharmaceutical companies including GlaxoSmithKline and Merck have identified risk factors affecting their operations. These are summarised as follows: Most pharmaceutical companies have recognised that the pharmaceutical companies throughout the world have become highly competitive ("Risk Management in the Pharmaceuticals Industry" 2005). AstraZeneca cited that industry consolidation have resulted in the establishment of few but very large and formidable companies which are able to match, if not exceed, the firm's resources allocated for research and development as well as marketing. This threatens the company's competitive edge, thus, directly impacting its bottomline ("AstraZeneca Annual Report" 2004). Similarly, GlaxoSmithKline explained that product innovations and advent of technological advances which competitors may adopt could adversely affect the firm's operating results ("GlaxoSmithKline Annual Report" 2001). These factors have facilitated the emergence of new global players, particularly in the markets of China and India, which are playing increasingly significant roles in the business models of industry players ("China and India: Risk and Returns in Asia's Blockbuster Pharma Markets" 2005). Apart form these, AstraZeneca also mentioned that risk relative to competition is aggravated by the loss or expiration of patents, marketing exclusivity and trademarks. The company noted that once patent protection or other types of marketing exclusivity for a certain product have expired, lower priced generic copy products may be legally manufactured. The introduction of generic products generally leads to substantial loss of sales for the pharmaceutical companies' proprietary products ("GlaxoSmithKline Annual Report" 2001). The competition from generic medicines exerts downward pressure on profit margins and results in decreasing revenues. This is evidenced by the study conducted by Deloitte which asserts that the very large number of drugs coming off patent in the next three to five years equates to billions of dollars in current in potential sales. However, it is estimated that the pharmaceutical giants could lose about $35 billion to $50 billion in product sales during the said time frame due to competition from generic brands. (Rhodes & Mulder 2004) Regulatory Approvals and Price Controls Pharmaceutical companies are also facing increasing pressures from regulatory bodies in various countries. In

Moreover, secondary objectives to this study are to develop policy recommendations that would guide the medical fraternity and more specifically the nursing teams in embracing their role in attending to the needs of the patients. It will also be a justification to direct future studies focusing to address the same or more related theme to the current theme under study. Scope of the study Many of the previous studies carried out under the theme of missed care and the effects on hospitalized patients have been strategically focused on qualitative analysis of the scenario and thus negate the quantitative/statistical evaluation. This study will therefore be instrumental and specific in analyzing the likelihood of occurrence of such errors as omissions and commissions and the empirical connection of these e rrors and the states of the hospitalized patients. ... patients is related to consistency and strict observance of the necessary care, then the fatalities and unfortunate happenings to patients are to be blamed on missed care or errors of commission and omission. II. Hypothesis: deterioration of patients’ health as well as fatalities in hospitalized patients is directly related to missed nursing care. 5.0 Methodology Intervention designs Unlike research methods that are used by researchers to refer to distinct techniques that are applied while carrying out a research study, the research methodology describes the vast number of processes that a researcher involves while studying specific phenomena. Methodologies therefore refer to the systematic process through which a research study is carried out. Research methods are categorically part of the methodologies that are utilized by a researcher within the framework of carrying out a research study. This section describes the various procedures that will be used during the testing of the hypothesis, collecting of data and management of data upon which this study is based. The section additionally explains the methods that will be used during data analysis and the description entailing the scope of the procedure that will eventually lead to the answering of the hypothetical question that was generated to guide the whole study. Environment of the study Methodology is a critical step while carrying out a research study in that through literature review, one is able to know whether it is a study that has ever been done and if so the methods applied previously and the outcomes that were gotten. It therefore assists the research in determining whether his/her methods have been used in the past and what other methods have ever been used. Moreover, the methodology may depend on the

Talk about four ways in which sound is connected or disconnected from Essay

Talk about four ways in which sound is connected or disconnected from image in The Conversation. For example, do they jar, comp - Essay Example The article will discuss several ways in which sound disconnects or connected from the image in â€Å"The Conversation† by Francis Ford Coppola. Introduction According to Cowie in his text â€Å"Picking up The Conversation,† Francis’ career in film making involves more than twenty-five films all through a forty-year career his acclaims as a film director attribute to his participation with â€Å"The Godfather† movies. Such a positive affiliation, indeed, has served Francis well all through the challenges in his career and diminished the effects of his essential work. In 1974, Coppola wrote and was a director of â€Å"The Conversation,† which is a scene that went immensely unnoticed because of the immediate release of The Godfather Part 2. Even though, both of the scenes contributed to the nomination of Oscar for Coppola, the triumph of The Godfather contributed to the fading of The Conversation into a level of under appreciation (Cowie, Picking up T he Conversation). Nevertheless, in Dec. 2000 Paramount Home Video produced a new DVD of The Conversation. This digital video will enhance the film lovers to praise and see it as it provides the right format for a scene. This is because the film producer invested in attracting not only the visual sense of the viewers, but also their attention. Francis Coppola hardly limited channeling his creative traits towards the scene because he reinvented the utilization of sound. Just the same as Robert Altman did four years ago with MASH, Coppola accomplished his story because of sound application. The utilization of sound by Coppola in the film The Conversation is an aspect that makes the scene a unique and provides the audience with a cinematic experience. The Conversation, although released initially in 1974, it was perfect timing because it was when people had little faith towards the political institutions. The scene addresses, in broad, the increasing sense of people’s mistrust to wards the political institutions. Through a creative and masterful sound use, Francis takes a significant advantage of suspicion and apprehension of the audience. Even though, the occupation of Coppola puts him in a high position, his technology use is a cause of skewed perception in relation to reality. While looking for truth in the midst of the conversation in the film, Coppola utilizes self-engineering modern technologies. The technologies aim at eradicating every intrusive noise that might affect the quality of the recording. However, the use of self-engineering technology did harm to the film because it eliminated the realness aspect of the film’s conversation. Harry directs his assistant to pay extra attention towards the recording and little attention to what the characters are talking about. This is similar to the distinction that people draw between listening and hearing. As Harry hears the words from the conversation, he hardly listens to what the words mean. It is not because of Harry’s personality or his achievements that made him a mark; rather it is the sophistication of sound that made his opponents. More so, through the audio maneuvering, â€Å"The Conversation† does not only narrate Harry Cauls’ story, but also the American story. â€Å"The Conversation† by Francis Ford Coppola The producer of â€Å"The Conversation† created sound track separately from images and was inclusive of three elements:

Private Vs. Public School Education Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 500 words

Private Vs. Public School Education - Essay Example But the fees of the private schools are generally very high, and not all parents can afford them. Public schools provide free education. they are equally focused and dedicated to the education of children like those in private schools. Private schools are found to be more expensive than public schools. The most significant concern is the tuition fees. Public schools do not charge tuition. Instead, they are funded through federal, state or local taxes (Private vs. public schools: what’s the difference?, 2009). But private schools are funded by tuition, fundraising, donations and other private grants. Public schools are subject to various state and federal regulations that allow them to provide education to all children including those with special needs. Private schools are not obligated to accept all students. When it comes to educating children in accordance with the learning advancements, curriculum is considered to be the most significant concern of the school authorities as well as the government policies (Kennedy, 2009). There are evident differences between private and public schools in the context of curriculum design for students. Public schools offer a generalized curriculum designed for all students, which includes all the essential subjects (math, English, science, etc.) as well as physical education. The curriculum is mandated by the state government, and learning ability of children is measured by various state standardized tests. In other words, curriculum design in public schools is somewhat definite as regulated by the state. Whereas private schools allow a considerable amount of flexibility while designing the curriculum. For instance, they can develop various specialized programs determined by the requirements of the students. Students are evaluated by standardized tests just like those in the public schools, but private schools can develop their own curriculum and assessment systems. Special

Challenges international students face Essay Example for Free

Challenges international students face Essay Introduction: This report has been written to lay out the difficulties, those international students face in their desire to pursue further education in the United Kingdom. The challenges that are outlined in this report are by no means limited to the areas chosen. The justification for writing this report lays in the fact that firstly there is a need to sustain and increase the number of students that actually come into the United Kingdom for their studies, as this makes an income for the government (Michele Schweisfurth, 2009). The  second is that the quality of education being offered is the United Kingdom is being improved by the diversity of international students. The International students, who are studying at University College Birmingham (UCB) average in the 1100 students range and from 65 different countries, meaning there is a wide range of challenges involved in studying in the UK. Thus, this report was written to investigate the challenges faced and discuss those complications, to suggest possible solutions to make the transition period smoother. The four main areas that will be covered are teaching styles, financial difficulties, language problems and the weather in the United Kingdom. The report has 3 sections; Firstly, methodology to explain the methods which are used, secondly, finding and analysing data and finally, conclusions and recommendation for international students. Methodology: This report uses both primary and secondary sources. The primary research was carried out by the use of a questionnaire. The questionnaire was designed in a way which made it easy to analyse and less time consuming than other methods (Bell, 2005). The questions were of a specific nature, ensuring the sample gained was relative, as primary research, and allowed the author to research the specific areas selected. Denscombe (2007) states that a questionnaire, includes the fact and opinions of participants. 12 questions were asked, this is to reduce the time taken for respondents and does not allow them to be bored, as Denscombe, (2007, p.163) says â€Å"The questions will not be irritating or annoying for the respondents to answer†, this ensure that the respondents answer accurately and do not answer hastily, in order to finish the questionnaire swiftly. The target set by the university in terms of questionnaires to collate was 30, this allows the author to collate a relative sam ple, in terms of the amount of responses. Therefore I printed and handed out a total of 45 copies, using a random sampling distribution method and collated 30. For the most part, the questions asked were of a closed nature as they are easier to answer as they are not of a personal nature and have limited response choices (Tomas, 2009). There were a small number of closed questions which then followed with an open question, such as how does the weather affect your daily life, this allows further probing into the main issues, and to allow respondents to give their personal  reflective views. The questionnaire was tested by my peers to check its comprehension and grammar, it was found to be mostly comprehensive although some questions were amended to make them more specific and the correction of small grammatical errors. The secondary research was in the form of 6 academic journal articles, as directed by the University. The importance of secondary research is it is un-biased and can be very useful in supporting the author’s findings. They have all been utilised within my four main topics except the weather, as there is no information within them about this topic. The sources themselves are in depth and have covered some a wide array of issues with international students. The sources are current, valid and support authors opinions and they are readily available on the UCB online library, allowing access whenever it is needed. Findings and Research: English Language: Learning the native country’s language is higher on the list of priorities of international students, who wish to gain academic success. Andrade (2006) says even if it is over a short period of time, this positive motivation enables them to progress not only academically but also with the native culture. As a whole communication skills will be improved considerably (Zhang Mi, 2010), who mention, that acquiring English language focuses on four skills; Firstly, speaking, which is the ability to discuss, present and interact in lectures. Secondly, listening, that there is an understanding of the lecturer and the subject matter is comprehendible Third, reading, both with a good level of comprehension and a good level of speed. Fourth, writing, being able to take notes from lectures and then compose essays. The International students will expect that some complex situations may arise after their arrival to the UK that will resolve with time. For example, the bar chart (see figure 1, p.7) illustrates the result derived from question 5, that speed is the main problem relating to language skills, in addition Schweisfurth Gu (2009) did a survey to discover how many international students are apprehensive of speaking the natives language, before they leave for that country, the results showed that less than 10% were confident with their language skill level, which only slightly rose after the students settled, especially in the areas of discussion and answering questions from  the lecturers. Ramachandran (2011) argues, that even with additional English training or achieving a higher score in IELTS/ TOEFL, does not help them with problems in a learning environment, since they were instructed by a non-native speaker or not in a similar environment. Once students gained speed in conversing will they have the confidence of the host language, the confidence with the language would have most likely prevented difficult situations occurring, and thus reducing stress levels for the student. In contrast, Zhang Mi (2010) cite that speaking is the most difficult skill for example; participating in class discussions or performing oral presentations within the first year, but that improves with the support from lecturers and peers, this is supported by the primary research which showed speaking was time after time one of the main responses given by respondents, as shown in figure 2. In addition, there is a 75% decrease over time of overseas students, who feel participating in discussions was useful for improving skill level (Schweisfurth Gu, 2009). In addition, Ramachandran (2011) records some additional studies in language skills, that shows that those students who are equipped with an advanced level in the skills, have fewer troubles, as they have already studied in their local provision, but their scope to progress any further in their country is limited. However after collecting the data from question 4, the results clearly show that writing is the most difficult skill for international students from UCB (see figure 2, p.7). Zhang Mi (2010) also found similar results that writing was the most difficult skill and it did not seem to improve significantly over time. Figure 1. The Main Language Barrier Figure 2. Most Difficult English Language Skill Financial Difficulties: In addition to the wide array of issues international students face, they also have the added pressure of the soaring costs of living (Smith Khawaja, 2011). The bBritish currency is fairly expensive, in comparison to the international students home currency, so understandably this is a major concern for them, not surprisingly the results for question 8 (figure 3,  p.9) show that less than 10% percent of the students find that the living cost are not expensive, these students were from affluent countries. Whereas just over 90% percent of students believe living in the United Kingdom is too expensive. Schweisfurth and Gu (2009) also validate that approximately 69% of students worried about finances before arrival, the results of the questionnaire clearly show this. Schweisfurth Gu (2009) state university fees in the UK are double what they would cost in comparison to their home country, and that 59% of international students make it to the end of the first term, the other 41% disco ntinued their studies due to financial pressures and returned home. Ramachandran (2011) recommends that the teaching team inform all students of the specific details of their programme and any other matters that would be helpful in managing their finances. For example renting an apartment that is not near the University because it is cheaper, but not factoring in the additional transport costs. However, most international students would prefer to live closer to the university and this is shown in the higher accommodation costs (figure 4, p.9) where a small amount of students are paying more than  £600 each month for accommodation, maybe for a number of reasons, either very close to the university or in a city centre location. So, the author found from question 9 that if students pay more in the rent, they will are more likely to be living closer to the university. Ramachandran (2011) mentions that students can reduce transport costs by living close to the university as well as other resources, such as the internet being available. Figure 3. Percentage of students who find the cost of living high Figure 4. Accommodation Costs Weather in the UK: The colder weather can be a culture shock for the international student, in comparison to their home countries weather, which will most definitely by warmer than the weather in the UK. Essentially, within the secondary research, there was no mention of this topic. As many international student come from hot climates, they would be an expectation that they would not like the weather in the UK, however, they were asked about liking weather in  question 10 and the results show that more than half do like the weather in the UK (see figure 5, p.11). Linking this onto question 11, where participants were asked if the weather affected their daily life, the results showed that three quarters of respondents answered yes to this question (see figure 6 p.11). International students may come from a climate where the seasons do not change as frequently as the UK’s. This then in turn affects things such as wardrobe issues, meaning having to purchase different clothes for different seasons. These are some of the responses for the question in hand: â€Å"It is cold, I cannot go for a run and the wind is also very strong† â€Å"I always have to carry an umbrella every day in my bag† On the whole the participants found that they preferred to stay at home, when the weather was cold, and it had an effect on their mood. Figure 5. Students who like the weather in the UK Figure 6. Does the weather affect you Teaching Style: The Teaching style, here in the UK, is very different to the teaching styles many of the international students are used to ;( see figure 7 pg.13) this can be in an already stressful time, something which the students struggle to adapt to, alongside other issues already cited. Smith et al (2010) found students found it difficult to adjust to the interactive teaching style and critical thinking approach within the UK, and also Students find lack of respect from home students to teaching staff unnerving, as in their home countries, teaching staff get the upmost respect. Narayanan T.Ramachandran (2011) many academic staff wonders why international students prefer to talk to them in private instead of raising academic issues in the class. When academic staff refuses to see students who attempt to meet them outside their office hours and without prior appointment, students may feel insulted or start believing that the staff are not forthcoming Ramsay et al. (1999) found that student’s difficulties understanding lectures  in terms of vocabulary and speed, and with tutors who spoke too fast or gave too little input. In home countries teaching styles will differ, something the international student will have to get to grips with sooner rather than later, further findings found international students dislike group work (Sarkodie-Mensah, 1998), referring back to the primary research it would appear the results were (see figure 8 pg.13) that within the sample listening to lectures was the most difficult, followed by discussions and seminar and finally note taking. This would support the secondary research statement. Amongst other issues found, it was cited that Professors did not recognise the emotional and psychological problems experienced and identified by international students such as stress, homesickness, isolation and finances, all of which are potentially detrimental to learning, Robertson et al (2000), it would appear that all the issues ultimately impact on the students learning and should be taken into consideration within at least the first year of study. (Figure 7) Is the teaching style in the UK, different to that of your country Figure 7. Is the teaching style in the UK, different to that of your country Figure 8. Teaching Method found difficult Conclusions and recommendations: In conclusion it was clearly notable that the main language barriers were speaking, however this was only a main issue at the start of the learning programme and it would then improve with time and support from teaching staff, but the real issue to be noted is that writing skills took a lot longer and only improved slightly, but with a noted effort. In the UK the cost of living is expensive however it should be fully researched in terms of what support they are entitled to and a realistic budget should be put in place, should they need to they can also work part time, which will not only help improve their English skills, encourage new friendships and stop them from getting homesick. With regards to the weather, it clearly showed that most the students did not mind the weather in the UK however it did impact on their daily life, and they had to adapt in terms of clothing. The author would like to recommend that students understand the UK has seasons and pack their wardrobe to this effect, as to not waste money on adjusting to the  climate on arrival. In terms of teaching style, there were some real issues notes here, students were struggling with the vast array of teaching methods and did not feel confident in lectures, discussion or note taking all of which have a direct impact on learning, the author suggests having some small group sessions introducing students to those methods, so they can raise any issues they find, rather than it go unnoticed. In summary the author advises for international student to research all aspects of studying in the UK, to be well prepared on arrival. Learners should also note that if they set goals, that all the hard work they pu t in will be worthwhile, upon successful completion. (2,437 words) References: Andrade, M. S. Mt First Lovely Dog English Literature Essay

Mt First Lovely Dog English Literature Essay My father likes animals very much that he kept them since I was young. He had dogs. At that time, I was too young that I was afraid of them. I was small child and they were big monsters. So I didnt like them. But, my father tried to make me become familiar with them. So he used to gave me chances to touch the little baby dog. He brought the baby to me every night for 5~6 minutes. The Big dog was scared, but the little baby was very cute. However, One day, one accident happened to me. It was about noon. There was nobody but only me in my house because my parents went to work. It was nice day until the BIG my fathers dog appeared. The leash of her was cut! Although I knew that I shouldnt run away in front of dogs, but I was very shocked and frightened that I ran away. Surely she ran after me. But she ran just cause I ran. However I misunderstood she was about to bite me. I was too embarrassed that I fell down. The dog just passed me and disappeared. At that time, I was very shocked that I thought I had got bitten by her. And really there was a scar on my arm! But it was scare which is made by felling down to the ground. I could recognize it a few days ago. After that incident, I hated dog very much until my family moved to here. My father likes mother nature very much that we moved to country side when I was 8 years old. Here is really deep in the mountain that there is a few houses. So it is nice to keep animals. Then my father started to kept dogs again. At first, my father brought a little dog that I loved her. As Yeappi(the dogs name) became bigger and bigger, automatically I dont hate big dogs anymore. Every evenings, my father and me used to walked around with her. She liked run very much. And she was a good mother. When she raised her kids, she totally devoted herself. When she took care of her babies, they were the first important things to her. Guarding her babies was sure thing to her. If her baby excreted dongs, she ate it all to make it clean. And to delete the smell of baby from their enemy. I was moved to saw that. Also if it was very cold day, she dug the hole and moved her baby to there to make them warm. However she was also aggressive like other wild beasts. I loved rabbit that Once I had kept rabbit. When he was a little rabbit, I could had him in my room. But as he grew up, it became hard to. So my father decided to kept him next to Yeappis home. My father and I thought that it is very good idea. But as soon as Yeappi saw my rabbit, she changed wildly. She tried to kill him!! We were shocked and my father saved rabbit very quickly. But it was late. Already one of ears of rabbit was cut. Sadly, my rabbit had gone after 7days. At that time, I hated and blamed Yeappi for long times. But she wasnt aggressive to me that as time goes by I could forget that happening. By the way, My father isnt get along with a guy of neighbor. He is really ignoble. He tried to appeal his anger to not only my family but also Yeappi! He blamed and shouted to Yeappi whenever he passed her. Just because she was barking! Even he spitted to poor Yeappi!!! One night, I couldnt stand it anymore. It was almost midnight. That night, she barked loudly. So he came to Yeappi, threatened her with long stick with shouting. I got angry that I got off with my mom and had a fought with him. I said to him It is not a dog fault but our fault. Then you should visited my family, not dog. And you used to shouted to my dog with very foul words! How would you like somebody blamed you, If you were a dog? Surely you would hate him and bark at him, isnt you? Also Your method is wrong! You could solve this problem with us not dog! And you are very rude! Its almost midnight. Its too late, dont you know? You could visit us next morning! And then, I wanted to fought with him more, but my mom ma de me returned to home. And next morning, he made a trouble. Finally he destroyed Yeappis house! Oh my god. I hate that guy very much. He let off his anger to dog! Yeappi couldnt express her bad emotion except for barking. How could do that such a poor dog! I cant understand him and I dont want to understand him either!! Sadly, my father decided to let Yeappi go. I didnt want to do that, but I thought it is torture to Yeappi. So I agreed with him. Since then, I couldnt contact to her. I am really sorry to her. Tags:   None Reply Quote Mark as Read Thread: I dont like animals. Post: I dont like animals. Author: GA-YUN 5B KO Posted Date: November 21, 2010 5:38 AM Last Modified Date: November 21, 2010 5:45 AM Status: Published Overall rating:   I have never raised cat, dog, rabbit, hamster and so on because my family, including me, do not like animals. I do not like animals. Frankly speaking, I hate animals. From little animals to an animal of huge size, I hate animals. Of course, I like to see cute puppy or lovely cat but it is just a eye candy. I feel repulsion toward animals. There are many reasons that I do not like animals. First reason that I do not like animals is fear. I am afraid of being bitten by animals. Dog, cat, rabbit, hamster and so on have sharp teeth. They have menacing teeth. Especially, big dog has huge jawbone and large teeth. It is very scary to look. Because of this, I do not want to go near them. Second reason that I do not like animals is hair. I do not like touch animals that have hair. It is terrible that I touch them or they touch me. It feels weird and odd. Also, when they move, their hairs are falling out. The hairs can trigger allergic reactions such as coughing and wheezing. Therefore no matter how cute an animal looks, I hardly like to stroke, pet and touch. Third reason that I do not like animals is dirt. Of course, family pets are clean but I think that animals that wander the streets are very dirty. They live streets so they are certainly filthy. Animals that wander the streets can not wash their bodies so they have the possibility that they have diseases. Also animals that wander the streets may have diseases that can transmit people. For example, people can be infected with rabies. We have to be careful of it. Because of this, I do not want to go near them. Fourth reason that I do not like animals is noise. Animals are very noisy. Animals make a noisy sound. Typical noisy animals are dog and cat. When dogs bark at a person, it is very noisy. And the sound can frighten a person to death. Furthermore, cats mew. Around the apartment building that I live in now, there are many cats. Every nights, they mew as a group. Cats sound like a baby crying. It is very horrible sound. Last reason that I do not like animals is my experience with animals. When I was young, my grandmother raised a dog. One day, the dog gave birth to two pups. The two puppies were very cute and lovely. Because I was young, I was bold. So I tried to bring the two puppies from their mother with no definite idea. Suddenly the mother dog attacked me to regain her babies. I was greatly surprised and I screamed loud. It was fortunate that I was not hurt but I was very shocked by her sudden action. From that day, I took a strong dislike to stroke, pet and touch animals. I became afraid of animals. That experience made me dislike animals. For these reasons, I do not like animals. Of course, I like to see cute puppy, lovely cat, little hamster and so on, but I do not want to touch them. I just want to see them. I do not want to go near animals. Tags:   None Reply Quote Mark as Read Thread: Animals are our friends! Post: Animals are our friends! Author: HUI-YUN 5B LEE Posted Date: November 21, 2010 9:26 AM Last Modified Date: November 25, 2010 12:18 AM Status: Published Overall rating:   Animals are our friends! I like animals. Sometimes I find some animals at unexpected places and I get smiled. For example, I met rabbits accidently which were feeding on grass when I was exercising at Sara-bong. And when I climbed the Hala mountain, I heard dim sounds like something is passing. Soon I find a beautiful roe which was looking at me curiously. Also we can easily happen to meet dogs which help a man who is visually handicapped when crossing the street. In addition to these animals, there are various species of animals and our ecosystem consists of them.     However these animals are suffering from humans selfishness. Environmental disruption causes large temperature changes and ecological adaption. As results of them, many animals are threatened with extinction. Besides, indiscriminate poaching has placed many animal species in danger of extinction, too. For example, poachers capture many whales cruelly to commercial exploitation. And some people hunt animals like raccoons, rabbits, tigers or so,  then skin them and made a fur coat in the name of fashion. Crocodile is used for many accessories such as handbags, fashion belts and purses. Even dog meat is very popular and healthy food for some Koreans. Last year, I have watched a documentary called Tears of the Amazon. According to that,  Ã‚  some people in the Amazon also ruthlessly capture unique animals in Amazon and sell them off for a living and it made some species to disappear. We should stop being cruel to animals, because animals are on an equal footing with human being. Human has no right to determine other animals existence. Animals are our friends. We can easily understand it by imaging our selves in animals position. To build this kind of view of world, it is good for us to remind a Indian chiefs letter. In 1850, the Indian chief  wrote letters  to white mans who force Indian to yield possession of their land. How dare you buy and sell sky and land? We think it is very odd. We cant own sacred sky and twinkling water, how dare we sell it? All things of this land are sacred. We are the part of the land and land is part of us. Flowers are our sisters. And deer, horses, eagles are our brothers. A rocky mountain, wild flowers, pony and human are family. à ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦Ãƒ ¢Ã¢â€š ¬Ã‚ ¦We thought about your proposal to sell our land.  Ã‚  We  want to suggest  some conditions to you.  I have seen a lot of rotten water buffaloes which white people shoot and throw away. You have to serve animals in this land as your brothers. What is human being in the world without animals? If all animals are gone, human will die because of loneliness. All creations are related, so the thing which happened to animal can happen to human, too. Although we sell this land to you, love this as the way w e love it. Please protect and love this land sincerely for your sons and grandsons. As the Indian chief said, animals are our precious companion. They are precious just the way they are. They live not for human  but  for  themselves.  So we should protect them from our selfishness. We can take up a positive action  by starting from a little things. For example i can protect bird nest which is located near my balcony. Because protecting animals habitat is beginning of the love. And we can sometimes try some vegetarian diet while reminding of animals right to live. If we perform these little but important works, the relation between human and the other animals will be improved and go meaningful. I hope more animals to have their stable habitat and get a right to live their own life. For that, humans support is essential. You are a dog. And Im human. But that was not important. You were same as my family. Although you are no longer with me, Im still miss you. So I want to recollect memory with you through this forum. Do you remember when we met for the first time? Im eight years old that time. And you were just one months old small puppy. My family began to talk about your name. Finally we choose your name. It was Ban-di! It means a firefly in Korean. Because you have shiny golden hair we choose that name. I was excited because I lived you. But you were whining all night. It was because you were scared. I felt sorry for you. So I brought you to my room secretly. When I petted your fur, you went to sleep peacefully. After you went to sleep, I went to sleep near you, too. Although I was scolded by my parents (my parents doesnt allow to raise dog in the house because I have asthma), I was really happy because you could sleep peacefully. We have become close after the day. Even though we were different species, I felt you understood my feeling. When I was happy, you were glad with me. And when I was sad, you shared my sorrow. When I was crying, you come to my side quitely. Then you started lick my hands until I stop crying. It was a great consolation to me. I still miss your comfort when I get depressed. You were a very thoughtful dog. But you were also jealousy. I brought up you and other dog Buk at the same time. One day Buk gave birth to puppies. Puppies were so cute. So my familys attention was on newborn puppies. Than you became sulky. So you went up on the roof and never came down expect meal time. By than, I understood your mind. So I gave much attention to you. Only then you came down to the ground. Even now Im funny at the thought of it. It was jealousy but very cute behavior. Even though I brought up you, I was afraid of dogs which are not my pet. One day I met a strange dog on the way home from school. It was not far from my house. But I couldnt move because I was so frightened. I just screamed. Just at that moment you appeared! Although you were smaller than a strange dog, you barked fiercely. The dog ran away fortunately. You saved my life! Im so grateful to you. Now I write about our last day. It was a rainy day. Just as I was leaving home, you come to my side slowly. And you looked up at me. I told you to enter your house in fear of you got soaked in the rain. But you didnt enter your house. Instead, you looked up at me for a long time. Although your behavior was strange, I went to school so that I wouldnt be late. I received a text message from my father that day. The text messages runs thus. Ban-di went to heaven. Please pray for Ban-di. I burst into tears. I remembered your eyes that morning. I felt so sad I couldnt stop crying. It was for the first time that I lost my love ones. I cried my eyes out. So I took an early leave from school and went home. And I eventually absent from school next day. There were so many memories that we made together the tears didnt stop running. Ban-di. How is everything with you in heaven? I still miss you so much. I could never put into words how much I miss you. Even though we lived together almost ten years, it seems to take more than ten years to forget you. No. I cant never forget you. We wont live together any more, I will cherish every moment we have been together. Ban-di! Please take care in haven. I love you so much! from your unforgettable family, Ji-hae. Author: JI-WON 5B HUH Posted Date: November 21, 2010 7:06 AM Status: Published Overall rating:   I like seeing animals in zoo. And I also like to go aquarium and see many kinds of fish or to watch a dolphin show. But I cant keep animals. Because I cannot touch or go near animals, even small. And Im afraid of animals like dogs, chickens, ducks, and so on. Im particularly scared to go near dogs. There was experience about this. When I went my aunts house during Chu-seok, there was a big dog. A dog was kept on a lead. So I tried to go near the dog with my cousin. But I failed because of dogs barking. And there are another experience about dogs. In last summer, I went my friends house to play with her. But there were two dogs, too. And because my friend knew that Im very scared of dogs, she saved me from dogs. So I could enter her home safely. But the problem occurred when I came home. When I came out from her house, like before, she tried to save me from her dogs. But she failed and two dogs surrounded me. And I was too fearful because two dogs reached my legs. In the end, I cried. Like these, Im very scared of dogs. So I hope that Im not scared and I can touch dogs someday. Because Im scared of dogs, not dislike or hate.  And because of fear of animals,  I was indifferent to animals and I dont like chat about animals. By the way, these days I take more interest in animals. After I watched two articles through internet about animal abuse, I changed my mind. One is The death of Maltese, and the other is The Cat, Eun-bi incident. First, The death of Maltese was that after Maltese dog was born, it breed for ten years, because of his owner for making money. Because the owner forced him to breed, Maltese eventually become ill terribly. And the owner left him alone, Maltese was died in the end. And The Cat, Eun-bi incident was similar the story of Maltese. In one efficiency apartment, a woman in twenties hit her cat severely and throw it outside the window. I was very shocked by reading them. And I also feel terrible after watching them. Frankly speaking, I was very angry that people act that. The owner of Maltese was very selfish and greedy. Also it was wrong act that Eun-bis owner teased the cat. Thinking, it is natural that we should not do such acts. And such conducts are unacceptable. But whats the idea of the such acts and why do that? I saw one comment in article. People are the most important than any others. So what is the problem? This comment makes me angry and I felt ashamed as a person. And it does not make sense. Because animals have the rights and it is not important thing that who is more important. And animals are living things, not our toys. And after seeing two articles, I thought carefully about animals rights. I think that animals have the rights. I read in a book that in Korea, differently other nations, there are some people that kill pets or wild animals mercilessly. Nevertheless these people werent punished or were punished lightly for these acts. So some people have no regard for mistreating animals. Therefore we need to prepare bills and protect animals from animal cruelty. And I wish that animal abuse no more occur. Along with this I hope that Im not scared and I can touch animals as soon as possible. Tags:   None Reply Quote Mark as Read Thread: My lovely pet Pump. Post: My lovely pet Pump. Author: MI-HWA 5B KIM Posted Date: November 21, 2010 2:07 PM Status: Published Overall rating:   My lovely pet Pump. Since I was a child, I loved animals. I thought that animals is very cute. So I wanted to raise animal. But my parents did not like animals. Therefore they refused my request. When I saw dogs and cats, always I wanted to pat dogs and cats. Meanwhile I became a second year in middle school. I went to my friend house, that time I saw a animal. This animal was very cute and tiny. This animal seemed like mouse. My friend introduced her pet. This animal is included species of hamster. Since that time, I dreamed about raising hamster all day. So I pressed my parents. But they refused my request. When I went to home after school, I tried to persuade my parents every day. After all my parents permitted my request. My parents suggested some rules. First I raised hamster and cleaned hamster`s fur. Second I did not bother hamster. Final I paid entire cost about hamster. So I had saved pocket money for a few months. And I brought a hamster. I called my pet Pump. Only I saw the Pump that I felt happy. I had trouble to take care of my pet because I raised pet first and I did not understand what my pet wants. One day I did not know that my pet was hurt. A few days later my hamster walked lame. I was surprised and shocked. Right now I took my hamster to animal hospital. Veterinarian said If this hamster not treated, it walk lame hamster`s whole life. I was so sorry. While we spent a year, we had a happy times. One day, when I went to home after school, I had a strange sensation. So I wanted to go home as fast as I could. When I arrived home, I saw the hamster. The hamster was lying on the bottom. I thought that Pump was sleeping. But Pump groaned with pain. I was embarrassed. I did not know that what I have to do. I took my hamster to animal hospital as fast as I could. Veterinarian said Hamster is tiny and weakly animal. So hamster is susceptible to colds. If hamster catch a cold, hamster can die. I am not sure that this hamster treat completely. I received drug and took my hamster to home. I kept my hamster drugged. And I waited that Pump would get the better of sickness.Suddenly Pump groaned with pain again. Anything to took the pain away from my hamster. Just I could pray for my hamster. But the pray did not work well. My lovely pet died. I cried all day and I could not eat anything. People said Forget the hamster. And you buy any other hams ter. I did not agree their opinion. My pet pump is not the same other hamsters. We spent precious time had delightful memories. I was changed because of this happening. Frankly speaking I do not understand animal rights before I raise my pet. Now I think that animals also have valuable life as people. Sometimes, people think that people have power and strong than animals. So they ignore animal`s right and bully the weak animals. I think that this thought is very wrong. If I did not raised my pet, I do not think animal`s rights. Sometimes I think Pump. Until I miss Pump. Once in a while I think that I want to raise pet. But when Pump died, I was in so much pain and I was so sad. If I raise pet again, Sometime I will see death of pet. Therefore I am little scared. I think that I can not raise any other animal. One is scare. The other is pity.     First, Im scared of animals. Especially, dogs. I dont know why Im scared of them. When I was 7 years old, I had been walking along the street nearby my house. At that time, I heard tinkling of a bell. I thought that maybe this sound is bell of dog collar. After a while, I could see a dog. That dog was skinny and had sharp eyes. I was very scared. Because there were just I and dog on the narrow path. So unconsciously I started to run. Then, a dog also started to chase me. I ran fast desperately, as fast as I could. But the dogs speed was very fast. So I was almost bitten by that dog. I barely get out dog by hiding in a neighbors house.     Also, Im scared of cats. Because cats have dreadful eyes. So I cant stare at cats for a long time. And cats are very fast. So cat suddenly appear and disappear in my sight. Besides, cat did not avoid human these days while cat in last days were scared of human and avoided us. When I see picture or TV scene of animal, I say, Oh, what a cute! That animal is very pretty. But if I really meet animal, I feel scary. And my best friend have a pet dog. That dogs name is BOM. BOM is little big but he is very cute. He wag his tail when my friend come back home. That behavior is lovely. So, sometimes I want to have a pet. Therefore I decided to have a pet, hedgehog. I thought that hedgehog is small, cute, pretty and charming. I collected many information about hedgehog like picture, food, lifespan and way to keep them. I eagerly anticipated hedgehog. But when I saw really hedgehog, I was sad. They were very cute and charming as expected. But I was scared of them. So I failed to have a hedgehog.   Second, I feel pity for animals. Especially, abandoned dogs in street and animals that living in zoo. People irresponsibly abandon their pets. So abandoned pets wander around street. They cant bath and eat any food. So they get dirty, have diseases and finally they die. And I feel pity for animals that living in zoo. When I was 10 years old, I went to the zoo for the first time. At that time, I was very excited and I think that animals were cute. But I went to the zoo in middle school student, I wasnt excited. Because animals of zoo have living in cage. So they cant have freedom. And they have hard training for visitor. I feel pity for them.   In 4 years ago, I went to the Thailand. In there, I rode a big elephant on back of elephant. And trainer rode on neck of elephant. Riding elephant was very exciting. But I saw the trainer have a hook and threatened to elephant for prevent people can hurt by elephant running fast or stand up. At that moment, I felt very sad and angry to trainer.   Still, Im scared of animals. But I think human and animals are partners that living together. So I want to try to get rid of my fear to animals. And I hope that trainer can realize their behavior like threatening to elephants is terrible. Besides, I really want pet owners to keep their pets to the end and raise them by loving heart. Because I dont want to see abandoned pets anymore. Finally, I wish have a lovely pet. I will challenge to raise a pet. Tags:   None Reply Quote Mark as Read Thread: change!!!!! Post: change!!!!! Little by little, the man loves the dog and communicates. After watching this program, I want to grow dog. I want to feel contact between human and pet. In fact, I dont have feeling about dog. But conclusively this program makes me change my viewpoint. I will write my viewpoints change for animals. When I was little girl, I liked animals. And I familiar with animals. Because my grandfather love animals. So my grandfather raised pets, chickens. I went to the grandfathers house, I played with animal. And my grandfather even raised dears. When my grandfather told about raising deer, my family opposed. But my grandfather was stubborn. Finally my family tired and allow that. Then I wanted to know why adult did not like raising deer. Because I was happy, when I listened my grandfather raise deer. Just, I was happy that I have new friend. This mind that I like animals continue to elementary school. When I was elementary school student, I raised rabbit. Shes name is coco. One day, on my way to home, I found old woman that sell chicks. So I wanted to but chicks. So I tell to my friend that buy chick together. My friend agreed my suggest. So I bought one chick. I arrived at home and I call my mom. But my mom didnt like chick. So I felt sad. Because I expected that my mom praises me. But my dad tell me my daughter very good girl, because you can love other animals I was very happy. So I really loved my chick. But my chick died. So I was very sad. My father and I went to there mountain at the back. And we buried chick and prayed for my chick. After this happening, I didnt grow any animals. But I grew animal. When I was elementary school student, I grew rabbit. Shes name is pipi. I was received her friend. In fact my friend grew pipi. But she will transfer to another school. So my friends mom did not agree that grow pipi in new house. So I decided growing pipi. pipi didnt like bath. So I was surprise that rabbit dont like clean. For example pipi always has darkness fur. Because she dindt shower since pipi came my house. pipi was dirty. But I loved her. But pipi escaped house. So I cried two days. So I dont have growing animals. Because I have feared that my pet will die or escape. But I want to grow baby dog now. While I watched TV program, I think many thing. Life that communicate pet is very beautiful. And life with pet doesnt alone. Im happy. Because I am ready to grow pet. In fact, one year ago I dont grow any animals. But I can pet again now. Animal can not tell. So I think that we protect animal and love them. So I dont understand person that throw away their pet. Think about pets hurt. And I think that owner have to have a sense of responsibility. And there were many stray dogs in Korea. This stray dog will die in seven days. So I am very surprise. Because stray dog is very poor dog. So I think that need public policy that more protect stray dog. I think that it is really true. Our family and many my friends are keeping many kinds of pet. Actually, I dont have directly experience like keeping pet or animals. But I have some experience about animals. When I was a kindergartener, my grandmother have a baby dog. Then, I and my cousins went to the grandmother. By that time, baby dog was very cute, lovely and small. So we started to make a dog house with my fathers help. Although we had bad skill, we made the dog house hard. the great part of making the dog house was made by my father. My father nailed the panel and sawed the designed wood panel. I and my cousins also help my father. For example, we was designing the dog house ,carrying wood panel and decorating the completed dog house. After my father completed the dog house, we decorated the dog house with paint, watercolor and several kinds of item. And then we want to give a name to dog. So we really worried. Finally, the name that we thought is beak gu. Beak gu is very common name. We can see this name anywhere country. But our grandmothers dog is very white and cut. So, we think that beak gu is matched well. When we decorated the dog house, we made a notice board. We wrote that this is beak-gus house . Because of making house day is winter, we covered the warm blanket in the dog house. we was very happy to make house. Because we was very very love beak-gu. Happy feeling was filled with my heart. Then, we brought the dog in the dog house. And when we brought the dog in the house, I said to dog that please live happily with my grandmother. I did not know whether the dog was happy or not. But now, I think that the dog liked the house to jump in the dog house that time. Till then, beak-gu is so small. we can hug the beak-gu. After some years left, I couldnt hug the god beak-gu. Beak-gu grew up very fast. So I was very surprised. to speak honestly, I was afraid with our dog beak-gu a little bit. When I went to my grandmothers home, grown beak-gu ran to me. Argument Against Charles Darwins Theory of Evolution Essay -- Natural

Charles Darwin proposed the theory of evolution to explain the origin, diversity and complexity of life. I will will disprove evolution by showing that natural selection only explains small evolutionary changes, collectively known as microevolution. Natural selection cannot drive large evolutionary changes, macroevolution. I will also show that the primordial soup, in which life supposedly evolved, did not exist. Neo-Darwinism incorporates the discoveries of modern science into Darwin's original theory while leaving the basic beliefs intact. Darwin proposed that individuals with favorable traits are more likely to survive and reproduce. Darwin called this process natural selection. Darwin did not understand how or why variation existed. Today scientists realize that variation arises through random changes (called mutations) to existing genes. Genes are the chemicals that determine the traits and characteristics of animals and plants. Every trait has one or more gene associated with it. Thus, natural selection provides the animals and plants with the best genes. Supporters of neo-Darwinism believe that natural selection operating upon random variation gave rise rise to all animals and plants. While the source of variation is random, the direction of evolution is not. In effect, natural selection removes chance, and it makes the theory of evolution plausible. If neo-Darwinism is correct then nu merous small successive changes guided by natural selection gave rise to all animals and plants. I will prove that natural selection is not a creative process. Its primary function is to preserve the status quo. Thus, new structures and organs must arise through chance. Natural selection can only preserve and optimize these new structures and organs after they evolve through chance. In other words, natural selection does not drive evolution, and the hypothesis on which neo-Darwinism is based is flawed. Natural selection drives microevolution. Microevolution is defined as evolution involving small changes. Microevolution does not require the evolution of new structures or organs, Therefore, microevolution does not involve the creation of new genes. Changes to existing genes (mutations) result in variation. Natural selection acts on this variation and preserves the best. So while the variation may be random, the process of microevolution is not. Natural... ...ific experiments can not test macroevolution, there is no direct evidence to suggest that the processes behind microevolution can also bring about the evolution of new structures or genes. In other words, microevolution should not be extended to support macroevolution. While punctuated equilibria may save evolution from the fossil record, it cannot save the theory from the more serious flaws. For example, the success of evolution is based entirely upon the ability of scientists to use microevolution to justify macroevolution. What is the difference between microevolution and macroevolution? Microevolution does not require new structures or organs. Macroevolution does. This implies that microevolution does not create new genes whereas macroevolution requires new genes. Two things should be clear from the examples offered above: 1.) Microevolution can bring about very large changes. 2). It is easy to make the same mistake that Darwin made. That is microevolution can accomplish a lot, so why not use it to explain macroevolution? For these reasons explained above, how can any person with a sound mind still believe in the outlandish fairy-tale that is called evolution?

The Portrayal of Family in Charles Dickens David Copperfield Essay

The Portrayal of Family in Charles Dickens' David Copperfield DECLARATION OF INTEGRITY. I declare that this study is my own and does not contain any unacknowledged work from any source. CONTEXT INTRODUCTION. 4 1. COPPERFIELDS (SENIOUR): Dicken’s pattern of 6 happy marriage. 2. DAVID&DORA’S MARRIAGE: the reasons of spiritual 8 separation in the family. 3. DAVID&AGNES’S MARRIAGE: Dicken’s ideal of 12 marriage 4. MR.MURDSTONE&CLARA: opposite to Dicken’s ideal 14 Of happy marriage. 5. MICAWBERS: the main components of 16 happy marriage. 6. MR.BARKIS&PEGGOTTY: the importance of women's wisdom 20 CONCLUSION 22 BIBLIOGRATHY 23 INTRODUCTION David Copperfield became my favorite of all Dickens' novels. Although the novel is rather long ( 736 pages) I have read it in one gulp for the actions that take place in the novel are developed so dynamically that the process of reading itself was like taking a piece of sweet cake. It evoked in me a lot of emotions and I really have been crying and laughing together with the heroes of this novel. The affect of the book on me was so great that I that was even thinking of it days and nights. That is the reason why I have chosen this book for my term paper in order to develop the theme â€Å"Family in Charles Dickens' novel ‘David Copperfield’ †. Charles Dickens is one of the most popular and ingenious writers of the XIX century. He is the author of many novels. Due to reach personal experience Dickens managed to create vivid images of all kinds of people: kind and cruel ones, of the oppressed and the oppressors. Deep, wise psychoanalysis, irony, perhaps some of the sentimentalism place the reader not only in the position of spectator but also of the participant of situations that happen to Dickens’ heroes. Dickens makes the reader to think, to laugh and to cry together with his heroes throughout his books. â€Å"David Copperfield† was Dickens' favorite creation. The novel reflects writer’s own life – his autobiography. The image and character of David Copperfield corresponds to the image and character of Dickens himself. The range of personages of the novel recalls to us people which were close to Dickens: Micowber is comical portrait of John Dickens, the father of the author; the image of Dora – is the exact copy of the Marry Bindel – the first sweet-heart of the writer; David’s seeking in marri... ... the novel, â€Å"Of all my books I like this the best†. Likewise legion readers have come to agree with the author’s own conclusion. In my paper I tried to trace Dicken's messages and lessons he teaches the reader on the family issue. By masterly usage of the language the author manages to portray good and bad images in order for us to be able to chose which way to follow and which one to avoid. The principles and components of happy marriage that the author is trying to share with us are simple but at the same time ingenious. I firmly believe that this book is highly useful for young people and should be included in the list of books compulsory for reading in the University. BIBLIOGRATHY *1.
